You might be here because...
•
You’ve done years of “the work,” but your nervous system still feels on edge
•
You understand why you react the way you do, but it just hasn’t changed much
•
You're realizing that a relationship you thought was love was actually something else entirely
•
You have that one person that you know you should distance yourself from, but you just can't
•
You’re high-functioning on the outside and just plain exhausted on the inside
•
Talking about it hasn’t been enough, and you don’t want to rehash everything again
•

Who I work with
I help people just like you, who...
01
Think deeply, feel intensely
and stay composed anyway
02
Have tried therapy before
but still feel stuck
03
Want real nervous system change,
not endless insight
You don't need to be in crisis to be here. Just ready for something to actually shift

Hi, I'm Dr. Maria Niitepold
I work best with insightful, capable people who are tired of talking about their reactions and want something to actually shift.
I'm a licensed psychologist specializing in EMDR, Brainspotting, and the Comprehensive Resource Model (CRM) for trauma, narcissistic abuse, and long-standing patterns that don't respond well to talk therapy alone.

My work is grounded, collaborative, and respectful of your pace, especially if you’ve learned to function well while carrying a lot internally.
A little about how I work
What it's like to work with me
Why I do this work
MY STORY
My own life has not been a straight or easy line. I came to this work because healing changed mine, the way it changes many of the people I work with.

I served as a United States Marine, and I immigrated to this country from Estonia. I know in my body what it means to leave everything familiar, to start over, and to carry things most people never see.

I have sat in the client's chair, not only the clinician's. I know what it feels like when therapy misses the mark, and what it feels like when it finally reaches the place that needed reaching.

That is why I practice the way I do. The freedom on the other side of real healing is not a theory to me.
How I work
MY STYLE
Warm and steady. Honest enough to tell you the truth with tact.

Direct, not surface-level. I am not a vent-for-fifty-minutes therapist. If you want to change the pattern rather than just describe it, that is the work I am built for.

Able to hold the weight. I can hold what you bring without needing you to take care of me, which, for many of my clients, is a new experience.

Paced to your nervous system. We move at the speed your body can actually integrate, not faster. Pushing past that is how therapy fails to stick.

Respectful of what this costs. Therapy is a real investment of money, time, and courage. I want you to need me for a season, not forever.
My approach to healing
THE METHOD
Body-based and evidence-grounded. Trauma lives in the nervous system, so that is where we work.

I specialize in EMDR, Brainspotting, and the Comprehensive Resource Model. Somatic methods that reach where trauma is stored, beneath words and insight.

Insight alone rarely heals trauma. You can know exactly why you are the way you are and still feel stuck. We go deeper than understanding.

Safety and resourcing come first. Before we approach anything hard, we build the stability that lets your system process instead of flood.

Specialized, not general. This depth is the difference between therapy that destabilizes and therapy that holds.
What we work on together
The trauma patterns that bring people here
Most of what I treat lives at the intersection of trauma and the nervous system. If you see yourself somewhere in this list, you are in the right place.
RELATIONAL & DEVELOPMENTAL
Self-Worth, Self-Doubt, & Feeling "Not Enough"
Narcissistic Abuse & Toxic Family Systems
The Parentified Child & Eldest Daughter Syndrome
People-Pleasing & the Fawn Response
Perfectionism & Impostor Syndrome
Hyper-Independence & Chronic Over-Functioning
Attachment Wounds & Relationship Patterns
TRAUMA & NERVOUS SYSTEM
PTSD & Complex PTSD (C-PTSD)
Childhood & Developmental Trauma
Childhood Sexual Abuse (CSA) & Incest
Chronic Nervous System Dysregulation
Shame & Self-Blame
High-Functioning Anxiety & Achiever Burnout
How we do it
Comprehensive Resource Model
CRM
A deeply resourced approach that builds internal stability first, then lets your nervous system process trauma from a place of safety rather than overwhelm. This is the model I work in most.
Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing
A well-researched method that uses bilateral stimulation to help the brain reprocess stuck memories, so events that still feel present can finally settle into the past.
EMDR
Brainspotting
BODY-BASED PROCESSING
Where you look affects how you feel. Brainspotting uses fixed eye positions to access and release trauma held in the body, beneath words and conscious thought.
